this weekend i made a quick stop at my local fueling station. while waiting for the tank to fill, i allowed my attention to wander a bit, lackadaisically looking over the posted adverts. it did not take long for one of these to draw my attention to focus: a photo-copied circular, posted prominently upon each pump. "Lunch Special: only $3.79," it proclaimed. upon further inspection, i found myself profoundly irritated, as the price breakdown was offered thusly:

$1.99 sandwich
$0.79 bag 'o chips
$0.99 guzzler drink
==============
$3.79 total

i can only hope that the proprietor doesn't use the same mathematics when computing my bill, or i shall have to promptly scold them.
