i know, i know. it has been a long time, hasn't it?
i suppose that i could prattle on about my health, my burgeoning family, or my recording studio (coming soon). "what an egotist," you might think to yourself. and so, in deference to your interests, let's talk about something less personal and more entertaining! what would oprah do?
how about a hard hitting exposé on honesty in journalism? oh, wait. that's been done. ah! how about a followup on the same subject - have authors learned a lesson from james frey? can we find an author with the guts to publish his personal story, but also the decency to mark it as fiction - just in case a few of the minor details have been slightly embellished for dramatic purpose?
as it happens, i know of one such author: my mate gus. it is a tragic story, really - a whale ate his wife, arm and kid; instead of rolling over, this courageous fellow took matters into his own (remaining) hand and set out to get his revenge on that whale. fortunately, he kept an online journal recording that season of his life.
some time has passed, though, and he's decided to publish this very personal story. i'd encourage you, dear reader, to consider reading this memoir; i was in near constant contact with gus during this journey in his life, and it was a raucous ride, well worth your consideration. touching, too.
there's more information here: http://blubberybastard.com. and please, if you talk to oprah, remind her that it is already listed as fiction for her benefit.
