a well-smoked muse

last night the chef and i sat down to continue hammering out details for an upcoming gastronomic odyssey - a tour of barbeque throughout the south. imagine, if you will, the freedom to pull over at any little shack with smoke pouring out of it. imagine an itinerary punctuated only once daily with an ending point: nights under the stars, a few essentials, a guitar, full stomachs, and a cool six pack.

you're probably thinking to yourself, "sir, that book has already been written," and perhaps you would be correct. sure, you could read a southern living article from 2003 or listen to tales of your co-worker's mother's brother, who once won a blue ribbon at the local fair. but wouldn't you rather discover it for yourself? i know i would.

to be certain, the chef and i feel a twinge of guilt in planning a trip around a commodity which is so abudantly scarce for many right now: food. it seems, though, that we can mitigate that in the next weeks by helping wherever possible. the chef has offered up an available room, and mrs L and i are coordinating with other local efforts. nonetheless, the trip is fast approaching, so the planning must continue.

that having been said, we are soliciting suggestions. tenative plans call for stops along this general circuit:

(obviously, we're missing a large piece of the puzzle in kansas city, but there is simply not enough time to get that far northwest.)

y'all just go on now, and drop your suggestions in the box, please.
